Cabanas belongs to the district of Tavira. It used to be an old fishing village but that is quite a while ago... Cabanas is located directly next to the “Nature Reserve Ria Formosa”. Strolling along the promenade next to the waterfront, you find many cafés, bars, restaurants and holiday apartments. During the peak season it is very rare to find an available apartment due to high demand. One of the reasons is: from Cabanas you can very easily take the ferry boat to “Ilha de Cabanas de Tavira”, a sandy beach of about 8 km behind the dunes, that invites you for extended walks, watersport, and leaves you with fantastic impressions for the eye and soul. More than once already, this beach was awarded the “Blue Flag”, a seal of approval for top water quality and beach appearance. In the Eastern Algarve in particular, there are many beaches with this award. Cabanas, a village with its island, is a spot for nature lovers and not for all-inclusive package tourists.
